چکیده

Method Subjects were studied walking on a treadmill. EMG signals from the calf and anterior tibial muscles were recorded and force sensitive foot-switches enabled these to be related to phases of the gait cycle. Ankle movement was recorded using a Penny and Giles electrogoniometer. Normal activation periods for each muscle group were identified as percentiles of the gait cycle. Indices for muscle activation periods were then derived using ratios of integrated EMG during selected periods.

Evaluation of a Drop Foot Stimulator FES Intensity Envelope Matched to Tibialis Anterior Muscle Activity during Walking

A “natural” stimulation strategy is proposed based on muscle activation patterns observed in healthy gait. This stimulation approach was tested on a 52-year old hemiplegic drop foot subject who is ten years poststroke using a computer-based FES control system. Dorsiflexion angle range was recorded for the subject while walking without orthosis, walking with the “natural” stimulation approach an...

The effects of functional electrical stimulation on walking in hereditary and spontaneous spastic paraparesis.

OBJECTIVES  To investigate in people with spastic paraparesis (SP): 1) the factors contributing to foot drop and reduced toe clearance while walking; 2) short-term effects of bilateral functional electrical stimulation (FES) of the common peroneal nerve. MATERIALS AND METHODS  Long term (>0.5 years) users of FES with SP were compared to matched controls (N = 11 per group). Ankle strength and ...

مقایسه فعالیت الکتریکی عضلات ساق پا در افراد با پای صاف و پای طبیعی حین راه رفتن روی نوارگردان با سرعت‌های مختلف

Background: The muscles activity of individuals with flat foot play an important role in identifying the causes of these people’s vulnerability. The rate and pattern of muscles activity depends on the speed of walking and so far, difference in muscles activity of individuals with flat foot and normal during walking with different speeds remains unknown. Therefore, the purpose of this inve...

Sensory feedback to ankle plantar flexors is not exaggerated during gait in spastic hemiplegic children with cerebral palsy.

It is still widely believed that exaggerated stretch reflexes and increased muscle tone in ankle plantar flexors contribute to reduced ankle joint movement during gait in children with cerebral palsy (CP). However, no study has directly measured stretch reflex activity during gait in these children. We investigated sensory feedback mechanisms during walking in 20 CP children and 41 control chil...

Relation between abnormal patterns of muscle activation and response to common peroneal nerve stimulation in hemiplegia.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the relation between response to common peroneal nerve stimulation, timed to the swing phase of walking, and abnormal ankle movement and muscle activation patterns. METHOD Eighteen patients who took part had a drop foot and had had a stroke at least 6 months before the study Twelve age matched normal subjects were also studied. Response to stimulation was measured by ...
